Early Act

EarlyAct is a school-wide service club sponsored by the Forest Acres Rotary Club in which all elementary students are members.

The mission of EarlyAct is to promote goodwill, understanding and peace through the active participation of its student members so that with committed citizenship and effective leadership they may improve the quality of life of their school, local and global communities. The purpose of EarlyAct is to provide students with the opportunities to participate in active citizenship in a culturally diverse democratic society within an interdependent world.

At Harmony, we place an emphasis on developing leadership skills, global awareness, and establishing a sense of belonging in our community through service-based learning. EarlyAct meetings are held biweekly and are led by the teacher-appointed officers using Parliamentary Procedure. This responsibility not only prepares them for future service, but it empowers our students to take ownership of the club and the service projects they plan. Students are encouraged to indentify needs in the community and propose reasonable solutions. Students vote on what projects they take on, set short-term and long-term goals, delegate tasks, and see their projects through to completion.

Harmony EarlyActors make monthly visits to a local assisted living community to perform for the residents and participate in special programs with them.

In the fall of 2017, EarlyAct hosted a collection drive for plastic grocery bags and then turned them into “plarn.” They then donated close to 1000 grocery bags worth of plarn to Operation Bedroll SC. Operation Bedroll makes bedrolls for unsheltered citizens of the Midlands.
